Lesson Five: Military Jacket
This lesson we had to unpick jackets that we were given. They were a 1940s style, and once we had un picked different parts and sections we had to create a different garment on a chair. I found this quite hard working on a chair but once i got the hang of it it started to form some interesting shapes and forms.
Before we started playing around with the jackets we spent a lot of time taking photos of the different elements on how the jacket was designed and made. I also looked at things that looked a lot harder to make such as the pockets and the buttoning of the jacket on the front.
when unpicking the jackets it took quite a bit of time because they were made to with stand heavy wear, once i had unpicked all the parts i wanted to i could then start laying them put and placing them together on the chair which then started to create a form.
once i had reached the point where i was happy with what i had done on the chair and used and attached all the parts that i wanted to i took it of and then started playing around and manipulating it on the mannequin.
In these photos below you can see that when playing around with it on the mannequin the dress took a proper from but still had interesting shapes from the chair that you wouldn’t get just on the mannequin.
