Lesson Three: Tights and Glue on a Chair

This lesson was a lot different to any thing i had done before, i really enjoyed it and found it really fun. It was quite a creative and hands on lesson. I decided to work with both tights and muttern cloth as i have never done this before i didn’t know which one would work best.

To start of i chose a tall chair and covered it in cling film and added extra bit in different areas to give it some bulk and different shapes. I used the cling film box on top of the chair and a toilet roll to give it some interesting out comes when it dry’s. These are some images to show this :

Once the chair was covered i started stretching the muttern cloth and tights over the chair. I used different colour tights and different size of muttern cloth to make it more interesting when it dryed. When trying to get it to all stick together the glue wasn’t drying fast enough, so i used pins  to hold the parts in place which when it dryed gave it some interesting and strong edges.

These images show the muttern cloth and tights on the chair :

Once attaching it all together, i dryed it using a hair dryer, this speeded up the drying process so that i could cut it of the chair and start playing around with it on the mannequin.

These are some of the different looks that i played around with on the mannequin:

I am really happy with the result and feel that i have learned a lot from this this experiment and task. I am really going to use what i did this week to help me improve for next weeks lesson and work out what worked best for me and what i might leave out.

Next week i have decided that im going to use just tights and not cover the chair as much by passing the tights through and creating negative space.
